Welcome to My Blog

I just got back from the ASAE annual conference and am inspired to start a blog about my professional career and experience. It just sounds like a fun thing to do.

First, a little background about myself. I am an association professional with six years of experience. This past year I earned my CAE (certified association executive). While I’ve worked for an association for the past six years, I feel that I am just starting my association career path (it started in February 2007 when I decided I wanted to earn the CAE and focus my career on associations and non-profits).

I had a wonderful time at the confernece (Connections 08 in San Diego). I learned quite a bit about what i do in my current job and even more about career planning and strategy. I pretty much split my educational time between the two (half of my learning labs were about communications and the other half were on professional growth).

Probably the most exciting thing for me was walking across the stage and being recognized with the other new CAEs. It’s a pretty big thing to earn the CAE designation–it took a lot of hard work and a lot of studying. They said that this year’s class of CAEs was the largest ever with about 270 people earning the CAE this year. I even got a nice pin.

I am literally just back from the conference today–I flew in on the red-eye. So, while still charged up and excited from the conference, I am also pretty tired. I plan to write more about my experience in the next few days.

Welcome to the blogosphere Caron! Congrats on the CAE – I’m going for it in December, may pick your brain…

Also wanted to encourage you to join YAP (Young Association Professionals) – yapstar.org – we are here to support future association leaders (young in age but also just young in the profession) and more importantly, we throw great parties! : ) Lots of fellow association bloggers are a part of it, instant family.
